Aluminum Oxide

Alumina-  Al2O3

Alumina is an excellent technical ceramic material that has a very low chemical reactivity, good strength, high thermal conductivity, high temperature capability, and a reasonable thermal shock resistance.  It is commonly used in thermal applications up to 1700oC.  High purity aluminas (99.8%) are typically used for applications where the low reactivity and the corrosion resistance are needed.  If thermal shock is an issue SiO2  can be added to help lower the thermal stresses.
